Environmental and Energy Studies

We are proud to announce, that graduate of the MSc in Environmental Sciences and Policy, Richard Racz, was recently awarded a grant by the Open Society Foundations’ Roma Initiatives Office. The purpose of the grant is to support the implementation of his fellowship project in the framework of RIO’s 2014 call for fellowships.

ISEPEI (“In Service ICT Training for Environmental Professionals”), the joint project of CEU and UNEP’s Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES) led by Dr. Viktor Lagutov, is being represented at the “Eye on Earth expert group and Special Initiatives stakeholder meeting on informed decision making for sustainable development” from 3-5 February at the United Nations Centre in Bonn, Germany.

Prof. Aleh Cherp leads a new project on the Politics of Energy Transitions supported by the International Social Sciences Council’s Transformation to Sustainability Program as part of the Future Earth initiative.

Prof. Aleh Cherp co-authors a paper on the concept of energy security with Dr. Jewell of IIASA, an EPRG alumna. The paper can be freely retrieved at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0301421514004960.

Abstract:

Doctoral student Diane Matar successfully participated in the IUCN World Parks Congress that took place at the Sydney Olympic Park on Nov. 12-21. In the framework of the congress' Stream 1: Reaching Conservation Goals, Diane shared with the audience the results of the first management effectiveness evaluation of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in North Africa (pic.1).

Associate Professor Tamara Steger and PhD Candidate Milos Milicevic co-authored and published a book chapter entitled "One Global Movement, Many Local Voices: Discourse(s) of the Global Anti-Fracking Movement". The book chapter is published in the latest volume of Advances in Sustainability and Environmental Justice, entitled "Occupy the Earth:Global Environmental Movements", available at http://www.emeraldinsight.com/doi/full/10.1108/S2051-503020140000015002 .
