Our students of the course Sustainable Water Management took part on a field trip with course instructor Prof. Zoltan Illes on February 17, 2025, and got an inside look at one of the most efficient wastewater treatment plants in the world, the Vienna Main Wastewater Treatment Plant Simmering! Not only do they clean the water before releasing it into the Danube, but they also generate electricity from water outflow and produce biogas from sediment.
Paromita Basak, a graduate of Syslab and the CEU's Environmental Science and Policy Department, has been awarded a $150,000 research grant by NASA’s Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST) program. This prestigious grant will support her PhD research at the University of Maryland, where she is working on “Analyzing Spatial Co-Benefits of Carbon and Structural Diversity in Southeast Asia with GEDI.”
On April 4, 2024 the Project Committee of The Balaton Group announced its decision to support a joint proposal by Prof. Pintér and Prof. Linjun Xie at the University of Notthingham - Ningbo to the Balaton Group Endeavour Program, designed to support ground-breaking collaborative research of members.
