‘Tools2: A Year in the Life’: Community health and wellness indicators reflecting daily life in Saskatchewan's isolated far North: Implications for Program Planning and Evaluation

 In this project we are building on SPHERU’s (University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina) previous work which created a conceptual framework that reflected northern Saskatchewan Aboriginal views of a healthy community. SPHERU produced a tool kit comprised of 165 potential indicators appropriate to the healthy community framework. We are working with northern Saskatchewan communities on a detailed study of their community health framework, applying the tool kit we developed to ask the questions: “How healthy is our community?” and “Why would we want to measure that?” This second phase of research will answer the latter question. We will be taking an ethnographic approach, visually, orally, and ethnographically exploring a year in the life of community participants from a variety of social and familial arrangements in the areas of food, housing, culture, and environment.
