This year's class of 23 Environmental Monitoring students were ushered into the spring season by the sounds of frog choruses and other wildlife during the course's field component along the Töreki wetland complex adjacent to Lake Balaton. With assistance from Paul Ashley (Parks Canada), Dr. Tibor Kovács (Amphibian & Reptile Group, BirdLife Hungary), and Anastasiya Idrisova (CEU PhD student), the class undertook habitat assessments, and surveyed anuran populations at 4 sites within the complex. One survey involved monitoring frogs by sound during the evening hours, a method modified for Europe by department faculty member, Brandon Anthony. In total, 8 of Hungary's 12 frog and toad species were observed during the 2-day field trip. Veronica Andronache, a MSc student in the course, took a number of photos from the trip, which can be accessed here.
