Lorant Czaran, a Programme Officer at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, will be conducting a workshop on using satellite imagery on Thursday 14 October at 13:30 to 16:30. Lorant is the focal point on geospatial matters at UNOOSA and is also covering the domain of space technologies for environmental monitoring and natural resource management under the Programme on Space Applications; he is actively involved as well with the UN-SPIDER Platform (Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response). The workshop will focus on the use of satellite-based technologies and of other geospatial data products in environmental management, covering data availability and access issues, data processing and visualization in post-disaster situations, and the various concrete support the United Nations is providing to countries in better using such technologies when needed. The workshop aims at providing Environmental Department students with hands-on-experience in state-of-the-art satellite technology applications and data portals available.
