SMARG and Syslab are pleased to announce Lorant Czaran, a Programme Officer at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, will be conducting a lecture by videoconference at CEU on Thursday 9 October at 13:45. Lorant is the focal point on geospatial matters at UNOOSA and is also covering the domain of space technologies for environmental monitoring and natural resource management under the Programme on Space Applications; he is actively involved as well with the UN-SPIDER Platform (Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response).
His presentation will address the use of satellite-based technologies and of other geospatial data products in disaster management related applications, covering data availability and access issues, data processing and visualization in post-disaster situations, and the various concrete support the United Nations is providing to countries in better using such technologies when needed. Often, their utilization can extend to various environmental and impact assessments aspects as well, not ending with addressing the disaster event only. A questions and answers sessions is envisaged at the end of the lecture.
