Part-Time Visiting Faculty position in GIS and integrated assessment modeling

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a part-time Visiting Faculty position in geographic information systems (GIS) and integrated assessment modeling for the 2026-2027 academic year. The teaching load is a total of 5 CEU credits (10 ECTS). The instructor will teach: Introduction to GIS (fall term, 1 CEU/2ECTS credits); Intermediate GIS (winter term - 2 CEU/4 ECTS credits); Introduction to Modeling (fall term, 1 CEU/2 ECTS credits); and provide undergraduate/graduate student thesis and internship supervision in the winter and spring terms (1 CEU/2ECTS credits). The instruction is in-person. Classes should emphasize hands-on training in spatial data analysis, visualization, and modeling, with opportunities to incorporate climate change/environmental modeling and other spatial approaches like remote sensing or geospatial statistics. The position includes lectures, labs, and student supervision.

Key Responsibilities

· Introduction to GIS (1 CEU/2 ECTS credits- fall term)

· Intermediate GIS (2 CEU/4 ECTS credits – winter term)

· Introduction to Modeling (1 CEU/2 ECTS credits - fall term)

· GIS/modeling thesis research advising and project internships (1 CEU/2 ECTS – winter and spring terms)

Qualifications

· PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, Geomatics, or related fields.

· Proven teaching experience in GIS at the university level.

· Expertise in climate change modeling (e.g., downscaling GCMs) and spatial methods relevant to policy analysis.

· Proficiency in relevant software and languages (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, GDAL, Python geospatial libraries).

· Familiarity with European environmental data sources (e.g., Copernicus, EEA) is advantageous.
