Exploring the Interface of Nature-based Solutions and Security

November 13, 2023

Prof. Laszlo Pinter has been invited to give a public lecture at the Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund, Sweden on November 13, 2023.

Topic: Nature-based solutions as purposeful interventions to address urban and rural sustainability issues and challenges.

Building on their accepted definitions, nature-based solutions represent a class of diverse and purposeful interventions making use of nature to address urban and rural sustainability challenges. Many of the challenges involve a threat to human and non-human security, associated with the supply of basic goods and services, such as food, water, shelter, energy or health, and their combinations. Climate change may act as a threat multiplier that affects these and other related challenges. The talk will aim to weave together insights from separate threads of research on NBS and climate risk and security to identify dimensions on the interface that may represent opportunities for research, policy and practice.

The Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund (abbreviated to UPF Lund from its Swedish name, Utrikespolitiska Föreningen) provides a space for students and those interested in exploring the world of politics and foreign affairs.
