Denise Matias (Masters program class of 2012) successfully defended her PhD at the University of Bonn. Her topic was sustainability of forestry enterprises, focusing on indigenous wild honey gathering in a biosphere reserve on the island of Palawan, Philippines. Denise says: "My master's studies at CEU's Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy provided me with a very good foundation on the topic of sustainability, introducing not only the latest research but also the pioneering work of early systems thinkers. In my role as a researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the German Development Institute (DIE), I find that work from years past are still very much relevant in finding solutions to environmental problems of today."
Congratulations Denise and all the best with your future endeavours!
