UNOOSA / UN-SPIDER Announces Support of ISEPEI Summer Courses

March 26, 2015

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and their UN-SPIDER Program (Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response) have announced their support of the two 2015 summer university courses being run by Dr. Viktor Lagutov through the ISEPEI Project:

  1. Making Information Talk and Technologies Work for Water Security, 6-10 July, also with support from Esri, the Eye on Earth Initiative, and UNEP's Global Universities Partnership for Environment and Sustainability (GUPES)
  2. Innovations in Disaster Risk Management, 13-17 July, in cooperation with UNDP's Bureau for Policy and Programme Support

UNOOSA first got involved with CEU through the first summer university courses held by the ISEPEI Project (“In-Service ICT Training for Environmental Professionals”) in 2014, where a representative conducted several sessions on the use of satellite technologies as applied to water management and water security issues. Since then, Dr. Lagutov has had a UNOOSA representative give several guest lectures to his students in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy.
