Anna Varfolomeeva is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy. Her research is devoted to the relations between indigenous peoples and extractive industries in the North of Russia and Siberia (Karelia and Buryatia). She holds her Master's degree (2012) from Central European University and Bachelor's degree from Petrozavodsk State University in Russia.
Prior to starting PhD Anna completed an internship for a youth NGO in Slovenia and conducted research at Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies (UCRS) and Ajtte museum (Jokkmokk, Sweden) with a fellowship from Sverker Åstrom Foundation for the Furtherance of Swedish-Russian Relations. Anna is a Council member of Association of Polar Early Career Researchers (APECS) for 2014/15 and 2015/16 terms.
