Introduction to Environmental Thought

Course Description: 

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with major issues in environmental thought, both historically and through analysis of the main contemporary discourses about the environment. As well as developing their understanding of key historical developments and contemporary perspectives, students will have an opportunity to critically engage with some of these concepts in a class debate.

Learning Outcomes: 

Understand and critically discuss key developments in the history of environmental attitudes and thought. Understand and critically engage with major contemporary discourses on the environment. 

Assessment: 

Individual assessment is provided at the end of the course with a written exam essay. Formative assessment is provided at the group level for the environmental thought debate.
