ETC: Energy Transitions and Climate Change

Course Description: 

This course covers the key concepts and the history of energy systems and their social impacts, the fundamentals of contemporary energy technologies, the global energy challenges and scenarios for the 21st century as well as  lessons of national transitions to sustainable energy in Germany, Japan and other countries..

Learning Outcomes: 
  1. Understand the social role and environmental, including climate, impacts of energy systems
  2. Understand the basics of contemporary energy technologies
  3. Understand the philosophy of constructing global energy-climate scenarios and their use for international climate policy making
  4. Understand the importance of national contexts in transitions to sustainable energy systems
